Harris’ New Campaign Strategy is Failing

Biden’s advisors ran a horrible campaign against an easily beatable candidate and are doing the same with Harris.

The old toads who ran an embarrassingly weak and spineless presidential campaign for President Biden are now helping call the shots for the way Harris and Walz run theirs. It was just a matter of time before the Democratic Party did something stupid to ruin the momentum they had coming out of the gate when it was first announced Walz was picked for Vice President. They have now been instructed to stop attacking the Republicans by calling them weird, a line that definitely resonated with the “normie” voters. Just call it what it is: wanting to ban no-fault divorce, IVF, and pornography is, to put it mildly, weird.

They have also been given the senseless directive to avoid any messaging about moving forward, which is the exact thing you are supposed to do if the other candidate won’t stop falsely claiming that the 2020 election was stolen from him. Instead, in classic Democratic fashion, they revert to the Clinton-era triangulation strategy of the 1990s by appealing to a center-right audience, hoping to pull voters away from the Republicans.

The triangulation approach is outdated and a grave strategic misstep. Embracing the endorsement of monsters like Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz, who voted in favor of Trump’s policies 93% of the time is just as insulting as it is embarrassing. It’s not a good look for Harris when she promises to codify abortion rights into law while hugging Mrs. Liz tight on stage, someone who celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The only reason she has become a darling to the Democratic establishment is because strongly condemned Tump’s insurrection attempt. It’s such a sad state of affairs when the standard is simply opposing those who seek to overthrow democracy. Party loyalists may choose to overlook this shameful spectacle, but it is a disgusting and hypocritical display and sends the wrong message to those who care about policy and enacting real change.

Harris recently announced on Twitter that she would “create a bipartisan council of advisors” because the country “needs a healthy two-party system.” I can’t stress this enough, but there is no chance for a healthy two-party system when one party is a sick obstructionist that reflexively opposes any kind of change that would benefit average Americans and others in need. There can be no unity with corrupt extremists whose sole purpose in Washington is to serve their corporate donors over their constituents. The commenters on her post are tearing her apart for these reasons.

The Democrats should force the Republican Party to compete with them, not regress in the name of peace and unity. There is certainly nothing wrong with promoting that kind of messaging, but there are smart and dumb ways to do it, and they almost always default to the latter. The best method for promoting unity is by focusing on the economic benefits that would strengthen the middle and working classes. Hammer away at the fact that unions across the country overwhelmingly support the Democratic Party because the Biden Administration has been the most pro-union president since FDR. There are many options for success using this method.

Harris’ lead has shrunk in every poll since these new tactics have been deployed, and some have her tied with the convicted felon who tried to overthrow the government and is running a campaign based on fear and retribution. Trump is the easiest candidate to beat and they should be leading by twenty points by now. Tim Walz – by far her largest asset – has largely been kept out of the public eye despite nailing every interview he does by focusing on policy and his stellar track record as Minnesota’s governor. He’s an affable family man from the Midwest. His messaging and appearance resonate well with blue-collar workers. Keep him talking in front of the cameras.

There is still time to correct this worrying course before election day less than three weeks from now, and there does appear to be some pivoting back in the original direction. Walz has started giving more interviews about policy and Harris is now using substantive attacks questioning Trump’s competence and mental acuity. They are more than capable of dealing a final death blow to Trumpism once and for all. It’s completely theirs to lose.
